MINNEAPOLIS–Damien Williams, one of Dolphins coach Adam Gase’s favorite weapons, missed Thursday’s game at Minnesota with an unspecified injury.

Williams was supposed to play, but he tweaked something in practice Tuesday and was held out. He made the trip to Minneapolis, but was never got on the field.

“Damien was more of a precautionary measure,” said Gase, who did not specify what was wrong. “He was going to play then kind of got banged up a little bit on the last day of practice.”

If Williams misses time, that’d be a significant issue for Miami. Gase uses him at running back, slot receiver, wide receiver and in the return game. Last season, he had 364 yards from scrimmage and was third on the team in touchdowns.

In his absence, as well as with Jay Ajayi sitting out with the rest of the starters, the Dolphins used Kenyan Drake as their primary running back. He had 27 yards and a touchdown on eight attempts.
