Does lack of a ring still sting Miami Dolphins’ Dan Marino? ‘Hell, yeah’

Dan Marino turns 56 Friday. He hasn’t played since the 1999 season and entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, 2005.

And over most of those years, he rarely has done interviews, so getting a grasp on how he looks back on his Dolphins career has been next to impossible.

Until now.

And to answer the obvious question: Yes, the fact that he never won a Super Bowl still stings just as much as you’d expect of such a fiery competitor.

“That’s the only feeling as a football player that I’ve never experienced, what it is to feel like to walk off the field as a Super Bowl champion,” Marino told an NFL Network crew. “Would I like to know what that felt like? Hell, yeah, I’d like to know what that felt like. It just didn’t happen.”

Marino conducted the interview for “Dan Marino: A Football Life,” a one-hour special premiering on NFL Network on Marino’s birthday.

The special wasted little time in dealing with the issue of the ring.

“If there is anyone that ever deserved a Super Bowl it was him,” John Elway said.
